The “Hunters’ Trail, Seamen’s Course: Taiwan Indigenous Hunting and Fishing Heritage” exhibition opened at the National Technical Museum April 16 in Prague, the Ministry of Culture said.
Organized in partnership with Taipei City-based National Taiwan Museum and running through Sept. 28, the exhibition features more than 100 artifacts and offers visitors a virtual reality experience incorporating photos, audiovisual content and models.
In prerecorded messages delivered at the opening ceremony, Culture Minister Li Yuan anticipated that the event would help the Czech public better understand Taiwan and encourage them to visit the country, while Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung expressed hope that the cultural event would inspire the world to fall in love with Taiwan. Ke Liang-ruey, head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague, said at the event that the exhibition marks a milestone following the MOU concluded by the two museums in 2022.
According to the MOC, the exhibition is presented through the four themes of “The Journey Begins,” “Adventures in Mountain Forests,” “A Longing to Sail” and “Muses from the Sea and Mountains.” Highlights include a handmade traditional fishing boat crafted by Tao writer Syaman Rapongan and his team, as well as a traditional hunting lodge set up by Tsou hunter Mo’e Yasiyungu.
Through these themes, the exhibition focuses on how Taiwan’s Indigenous peoples, who are part of the Austronesian language family, developed unique craftsmanship, hunting techniques and life wisdom in response to their environment. (SFC-E)
